Knowing God Personally III—Our Life

Adapted from Knowing God Personally by Cru.

How do I grow as a follower of Jesus?

STUDY

What do the following verses say about growing as a follower of Jesus?

2 Timothy 3:14-17
But you remain in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them. From infancy, you have known the holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus. Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that each person who belongs to God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Philippians 4:6
In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

Luke 6:46-49
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things which I say? Everyone who comes to me, and hears my words, and does them, I will show you who he is like. He is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep, and laid a foundation on the rock. When a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it was founded on the rock. But he who hears, and doesn’t do, is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”

Ephesians 5:18
Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit

Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Hebrews 10:24-25
Let’s consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

The Bible tells us to...
  • Get to know God by reading the Bible daily. (2 Tim. 3:14-17)
  • Respond to God in prayer. (Phil. 4:6)
  • Obey God moment by moment. (Luke 6:46-49)
  • Walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. (Eph. 5:18)
  • Tell others about Jesus through your life and words. (Matt. 28:18-20)
  • Have fellowship with other Christians. (Heb. 10:24-25)

DISCUSSION

  • What are some ways that you can daily get into the Word of God?
  • What are some ways that you can pray throughout the day?
  • Why should we obey God since our salvation is guaranteed and cannot be lost?
  • What does it mean to walk in the power of Holy Spirit?
  • Who are the people that God has placed in your life who need to hear the Gospel?
  • Do you need help finding a church to attend regularly?

FINAL THOUGHT

Will you commit yourself to weekly discipleship this semester?
Like anything, one of the best ways to learn and grow is to have someone walk alongside you to encourage, motivate, and teach you. Please pray and consider continuing to meet weekly to learn and grow!
